Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1079

Sayyiduna Abdullah al-Mudliji (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! We travel on boats, and we take some water with us for our drinking. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Its (the sea's) water is pure, and its dead animals are lawful.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Jabbar bin Umar, whom Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and Imam Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) declared da'if (weak), while Muhammad bin Sa'd declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
