Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Of two women from the tribe of Hudhayl, one killed the other. Then the narrator mentioned the whole hadith, in which, further on, he states that the woman who was killed was pregnant. The family of the slain woman said that this woman had been pregnant and that the child had come out of her womb dead. The family of the woman who killed her feared that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) might make them liable to pay the blood money. They said: "O Messenger of Allah, this child neither drank anything nor ate anything, nor cried out nor wailed." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is this the rhymed speech of the Age of Ignorance?" Then he ruled that a slave or a slave-woman be paid for the child in the womb.
Abu Ya'la recorded it through Mujalid bin Sa'id from al-Sha'bi. Ibn Adi says: The narrations of this route are salih (fair). The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih. A group of scholars declared the narrator Mujalid da'if (weak).
Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah also recorded this report, without the words about the rhymed speech of the Age of Ignorance.
