A narrator named Jabir narrates: I heard Salim bin Abdullah, Aban bin Uthman and Zayd bin Hasan mention that (during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Uthman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him)) a man was brought to him who had committed indecency with a boy from Quraysh whose lineage was well known. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Woe to you! Where are the witnesses? Is this man muhsan?" The people said: "This man married a woman but has not yet consummated the marriage with her." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him): "Had he consummated the marriage with this woman, the punishment of stoning could have been given to him; but since he has not consummated the marriage with his wife, have him given the lashes of the prescribed punishment (hadd)." Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I bear witness that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say the very thing that Abu al-Hasan has stated." So Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the order concerning this man, and he was given one hundred lashes.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Jabir al-Ju'fi, who has explicitly stated that he heard it, and its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.
