وَعَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ قَالَ : لَقَدْ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَلَيْنَا - يَعْنِي قُبَاءَ - فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - قَدْ أَثْنَى عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الطَّهُورِ خَيْرًا ، أَفَلَا تُخْبِرُونِي ؟ " قَالَ : يَعْنِي قَوْلَهُ : ( فِيهِ رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَتَطَهَّرُوا وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُطَّهِّرِينَ ) . قَالَ : فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّا نَجِدُهُ مَكْتُوبًا عَلَيْنَا فِي التَّوْرَاةِ - يَعْنِي الِاسْتِنْجَاءَ بِالْمَاءِ - .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ ، وَلَمْ يَقُلْ : عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، كَمَا قَالَ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ شَهْرٌ أَيْضًا .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ ، وَلَمْ يَقُلْ : عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، كَمَا قَالَ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ شَهْرٌ أَيْضًا .
Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Salam narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us (he meant that he (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Quba), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has praised you with regard to purification; will you not tell me about it? (That is, what is your particular method of purification? The narrator says:) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was referring to this saying of Allah Almighty: "In it are men who love to purify themselves thoroughly, and Allah Almighty loves those who purify themselves thoroughly." The narrator says: They said: O Messenger of Allah! We found it prescribed as obligatory upon us in the Torah. By this they meant istinja (cleansing) with water.
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration from Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Salam; in his chain he did not include the words that it is from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam, may Allah be pleased with him), as Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. The chain of this narration also contains the narrator Shahr.
