وَعَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ : أَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ الْمَسْجِدَ الَّذِي أُسِّسَ عَلَى التَّقْوَى مَسْجِدَ قُبَاءَ ، فَقَامَ عَلَى بَابِهِ فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَحْسَنَ عَلَيْكُمُ الثَّنَاءَ فِي الطَّهُورِ ، فَمَا طَهُورَكُمْ ؟ " قُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّا أَهْلُ كِتَابٍ ، وَنَجِدُ الِاسْتِنْجَاءَ عَلَيْنَا بِالْمَاءِ ، وَنَحْنُ نَفْعَلُهُ الْيَوْمَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - قَدْ أَحْسَنَ عَلَيْكُمُ الثَّنَاءَ فِي الطَّهُورِ ، فَقَالَ : ( فِيهِ رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَتَطَهَّرُوا وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُطَّهِّرِينَ ) .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ شَهْرُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ ، وَقَدِ اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ ، وَلَكِنَّهُ وَثَّقَهُ أَحْمَدُ وَابْنُ مَعِينٍ وَأَبُو زُرْعَةَ وَيَعْقُوبُ بْنُ شَيْبَةَ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ شَهْرُ بْنُ حَوْشَبٍ ، وَقَدِ اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ ، وَلَكِنَّهُ وَثَّقَهُ أَحْمَدُ وَابْنُ مَعِينٍ وَأَبُو زُرْعَةَ وَيَعْقُوبُ بْنُ شَيْبَةَ .
Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Salam reports from his father: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the mosque, that is, the Mosque of Quba, whose foundation was laid upon piety. He stood at its door and said: Allah Almighty has praised you people with regard to purification, so what is your method of attaining purification? We said: O Messenger of Allah! When we were People of the Book, we held istinja (cleansing) with water to be obligatory upon ourselves, and we still do so today. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has praised you with regard to purification, and He has said: "In it are men who love to purify themselves thoroughly, and Allah Almighty loves those who purify themselves thoroughly."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Shahr bin Hawshab, about whom the hadith scholars have differed; however, Imam Ahmad, Yahya bin Ma'in, Abu Zur'ah and Ya'qub bin Shaybah declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
