Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1051

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: People in earlier times did not wash their private parts with water (after relieving themselves).
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Layth bin Abi Sulaym, who is thiqah (trustworthy), but he has been described as suffering from confusion (ikhtilat) and making mistakes.
