Muhammad bin Sallam al-Jumahi narrates: Abu Ubaydah said that Dirar bin al-Azwar was the one who killed Malik bin Nuwayrah. About this, Mutammim bin Nuwayrah composed these verses, alluding to Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid: "What an excellent slain man, when the winds howl from every side among the thorn trees, is the one you killed, O Ibn al-Azwar! How excellent was the wearer of the armour when you met him, and how excellent a refuge for the night visitor seeking his fire! Generous with the gaming arrows when in high spirits, sweet-natured, his wealth lawfully gained, never treacherous. He did not wear indecency beneath his garments; hard to lead, chaste of waist-wrapper. Did you invite him in the name of Allah and then kill him? Had he called you under a pledge of protection, he would not have betrayed it. Excellent were the horsemen on the day when the horsemen of Fihr left (him) in the dark dust." It is also narrated: "in the dark murk."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
