Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One night the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me to follow him. He said: A group of fifteen jinn, who are cousins and nephews of one another, will come to me tonight, and I will recite the Qur'an to them. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I went with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to the place where he intended to go. He drew a line for me and told me to sit, and he said: Do not go outside this! I remained there through the night until, close to the pre-dawn (suhur) time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me. In his blessed hand there was an old, decayed bone, a piece of dung and a piece of charcoal. He said: When you go to relieve yourself, do not cleanse yourself (istinja) with any of these (three things). Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The next morning I thought: I will examine the place where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had gone. I went there and saw the resting place of seventy camels.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, whom the Imams, namely Imam Ahmad and others, declared da'if (weak), while Yahya bin Ma'in and Abd al-Malik bin Shu'ayb bin al-Layth declared him thiqah (trustworthy); the remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
Abdullah has a long hadith that will come in the chapter on the signs of Prophethood; Imam Ahmad recorded it.
