Abu Ishaq has transmitted from Sayyiduna Ri'yah al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him a letter, and he patched his bucket with it. A military expedition of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by him, and they drove off his camels. Later this man became a Muslim. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Whatever of your property you find in its original form before it is distributed, you have the greater right to it."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains al-Hajjaj bin Artah, and he is a mudallis; the rest of the narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih. However, that report is different which Ibn Ishaq transmitted from Sayyiduna Ri'yah (may Allah be pleased with him), and it has already been transmitted before this through Abu Ishaq from Imam al-Sha'bi, and through Abu Ishaq from Abu Amr al-Shaybani. And Allah knows best.
