Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of the banner and shook it, then he said: "Who will take it with its due right?" So a certain man came and said: "I will." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Step aside." Then another man came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Step aside." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One who has honoured the face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I will give this banner to a man who will not flee. Come forward, O Ali!" Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) went, until Allah Almighty granted him the conquest of Khaybar and Fadak, and he brought back the ajwah dates and the qadid (dried meat) of both these places.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
