Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: There was no fortress stronger than the fortress of Banu Harithah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed the women, the children and the offspring in it, and said: "If anyone tries to come at you, flash the sword (at him)." A man from Banu Tha'labah bin Sa'd, named Najdan, one of Banu Hashshash, came toward those women riding a horse, until, when he reached the foot of the fortress, he began saying to the women: "Come down to me; it is better for you." The women moved the sword about, and the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him. They hurried to the fortress; among them was a man from Banu Harithah named Zuhayr bin Rafi'. He said: "O Najdan! Come out!" He came out to face him; he charged at him on his horse and killed him, and took his head and went with it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
