It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) met Zaid bin Amr bin Nufail at the lower part of Baldah. This incident occurred before the revelation of Prophethood to you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) presented food to him, which included meat. Zaid refused to eat the food and said, "I do not eat what you slaughter in your idol-houses, and I also do not eat any slaughtered animal over which Allah's name has not been mentioned." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this incident from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sa‘id bin Zayd al-‘Adawi radi Allahu anhu, the son of Zayd bin ‘Amr bin Nufayl, is among the ten who were given glad tidings of Paradise (asharah mubashsharah). Before the advent of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, Zayd bin ‘Amr detested idol worship. He was always in search of the truth, and by his natural disposition, Judaism and Christianity did not appeal to him either. In reality, he believed in the religion of Ibrahim alayhis salam, whose foundation was monotheism (tawhid). He would not eat the meat of animals slaughtered in the name of anyone other than Allah. Therefore, when the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam presented food to him, he assumed that, like the other people of Makkah, the animal had been slaughtered in the name of idols. However, in reality, this was not the case, and the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, from the very beginning, would not eat anything dedicated to other than Allah. Allah always protected him from such foods.
It is mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari that Zayd bin ‘Amr bin Nufayl used to say to the people of Makkah: “The goat was created by Allah, He sent down water from the sky for it, and He caused grass and fodder to grow from the earth for it. Yet you slaughter this goat in the name of others besides Allah. Woe to you for this action and belief.”
