Hadith 12013

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Soon you will tire your camels by traveling in search of knowledge, and you will not find anyone more knowledgeable than the scholar of Madinah. Some people think that this refers to 'Umari, but the majority believe that this refers to Imam Malik bin Anas, may Allah have mercy on him, thus they gave preference to Imam Malik.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Imam Malik rahimahullah is one of the famous four Imams. He is the Imam of Dar al-Hijrah. The Imam was born in the year 91 Hijri and passed away in the year 179 Hijri. The people of knowledge are unanimous regarding his leadership, eminence, nobility, and respect. He had attained perfection in honoring and memorizing the ahadith of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

Who is meant by "Umari"? There are two opinions regarding this:

(1) Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar bin Khattab. He was a person of great asceticism and piety. Imam Nasa'i declared him trustworthy (thiqah), and Imam Ibn Hibban said: He was the greatest ascetic of his time and engaged in much worship in seclusion. He passed away in the year 184 Hijri.

(2) Imam Tirmidhi said: By "Umari" is meant Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah, who was from the descendants of Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab radi Allahu anhu.
