❖ Ruling on Forgetting “As-Ṣalātu Khayrun Min an-Nawm” in Fajr Adhān ❖
❓ Question:
If a muʾadhdhin forgets to say “الصلاة خير من النوم“ during the Fajr adhān, is it necessary to repeat the entire adhān?
📝 Answer by:
Shaykh Saʿīd Mujtabā Saʿīdī (حفظه الله)
Shaykh Ikrāmullah Wāḥidī (حفظه الله)
✅ Ruling: No Need to Repeat the Adhān
If the purpose of the adhān — that is, informing the local community of the time for prayer — has already been fulfilled, then it is not necessary to repeat the adhān, even if the phrase “as-Ṣalātu Khayrun Min an-Nawm” was omitted.
📌 Further Clarification:
◈ If the omission is remembered during the adhān, it is recommended to repeat the phrase immediately.
◈ If the adhān is completed and then the omission is recalled, there is no need to repeat the entire adhān, as the objective has already been achieved, especially given that other mosques are also calling the adhān.
✅ Conclusion
✔ Forgetting to say “as-Ṣalātu Khayrun Min an-Nawm” in Fajr adhān does not invalidate the adhān,
✔ No repetition is necessary after completion,
✔ If remembered during, repeat the phrase then and there.
