Ruling on Giving Adhan Simultaneously in Different Mosques
❖ Question:
Should a Mu’adhdhin wait for the completion of the first Adhan being given in another mosque, or is it necessary to give Adhan at the appointed time?
❖ Answer by: Fadhilat al-‘Alim Khidr Hayat (ḥafiẓahullāh)
◈ Ruling Regarding the Timing of Adhan:
All mosques should give the Adhan at the same prescribed time. There is no issue if different Mu’adhdhins in various mosques deliver the Adhan simultaneously.
It is preferable that mosques be built at distances such that the Adhan of one mosque does not interfere with another. This ensures ease for the worshippers and avoids unnecessary hardship.
◈ Simultaneous Adhans:
If multiple Mu’adhdhins are giving Adhan at the same time, it is not necessary for one Mu’adhdhin to wait for the completion of another’s Adhan.
Giving the Adhan at its prescribed time holds great importance, as it is directly linked to the timing of Salah.
◈ Responding to the Adhan:
When multiple mosques are giving the Adhan for the same Salah, it is sufficient to respond to the Adhan of the nearby mosque, especially the one in which you intend to offer the prayer.
However, if someone chooses to respond to all the Adhans, it will be a means of reward, In shā’ Allāh.
◈ Important Note:
The correct spelling of the Arabic word is “أذان“, not “آذان“.
❖ Conclusion:
✔ The Mu’adhdhin should give the Adhan at its prescribed time, even if the Adhan is ongoing in other mosques.
✔ It is sufficient to respond to the Adhan of the nearest mosque, but responding to all Adhans is also meritorious.
