Issues Regarding Eid Prayer
No Prayer Before or After Eid Prayer
There is no sermon or prayer (Nawafil) before performing the Eid prayer, nor are there any Nawafil to be performed afterward.
Performing Two Rak’ahs of Eid Prayer
❀ The very first act on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah after sunrise is to perform two rak’ahs of Eid prayer.
❀ Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (RA) states that according to the command of the Messenger of Allah (SAW), the Eid al-Adha prayer consists of two rak’ahs, the Eid al-Fitr prayer consists of two rak’ahs, the traveler’s prayer consists of two rak’ahs, the Friday prayer consists of two rak’ahs, and all of these are complete; none of them are shortened.
Adhan and Iqamah for Eid Prayer
There is no Adhan or Iqamah for the Eid prayer.
Takbeers in Eid Prayer
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to say seven takbeers before the recitation in the first rak’ah and five takbeers before the recitation in the second rak’ah of the Eid prayer.
Khutbah after Eid Prayer
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to give the khutbah immediately after the Eid prayer (without a pulpit), standing facing the worshippers.
It is not necessary to sit for the Eid Khutbah
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: “Whoever wishes may sit for the khutbah, and whoever wishes may leave.”
Explanation:
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, permitted leaving without the sermon, but if we look at other sayings of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, it becomes clear that he emphasized to women that even if they are menstruating, they should still attend the Eid prayer gathering, sit separately from the worshippers, and join the Muslims in supplication after the sermon. Therefore, it is not permissible to leave the sermon without a compelling reason.
Encouraging charity and alms after the sermon
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, encouraged giving charity and alms after the Eid prayer and instructed Sayyiduna Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, to collect charity from the women.
Collective supplication after the Eid prayer
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to supplicate to Allah after the Eid prayer.
