✍ Written by: Imran Ayub Lahori
◈ No Specific Instruction in Hadith
There is no mention in the Ahadith of any particular usage for the meat or skin of the ʿAqīqah animal. Therefore, they should be treated in the same manner as the meat and skin of a sacrifice (Qurbani).
◈ Scholarly Ruling
Dr. Wahbah al-Zuhayli (رحمه الله) stated:
The ruling regarding the meat and skin of the ʿAqīqah animal is the same as that of sacrificial animals.
- Its meat may be eaten.
- Its meat may be given in charity.
- Nothing from it (meat or skin) may be sold.
[Al-Fiqh al-Islami wa Adillatuhu: 3/639]
✅ Conclusion:
The meat and skin of the ʿAqīqah animal can be consumed or given away in charity, just like that of sacrificial animals, but they must not be sold.
