❖ The Miracle of the Splitting of the Moon (Shaqq al-Qamar)

🌿 Divine Statement:

“The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split. And if they see a sign, they turn away and say: ‘This is continuing magic.’ And they denied and followed their desires, but every matter will be settled.”

📚 [Sūrah al-Qamar: 1–3]

✿ The Prophet’s ﷺ Statement Regarding the Hour

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“I and the Hour have been sent like these two,” — and he joined his index and middle fingers together.
📚 [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 4936, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 2250 – paraphrased]

✿ A Proven and Established Prophetic Miracle

Numerous authentic narrations mention the miracles of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, one of which is the splitting of the moon, as referred to in the above Qur’anic verses.

✿ Chains of Transmission

This miraculous event is reported from several noble Companions, including:

  • Anas bin Mālik
  • Jubayr bin Muṭʿim
  • Ḥudhayfah bin al-Yamān
  • ʿAbdullāh bin ʿAbbās
  • ʿAbdullāh bin ʿUmar
  • ʿAbdullāh bin Masʿūd رضي الله عنهم

Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr has declared the ḥadīths regarding this miracle to be mutawātir (mass-transmitted).
📚 See: Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr, 13/1289 – Verified Edition

✿ Authentic Ḥadīth Example

Narrated by Sayyidunā Anas رضي الله عنه:

“The people of Makkah demanded a sign (miracle) from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he showed them the moon split into two, until they saw Mount Ḥirā’ between the two halves.”
📚 [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 3868, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 2802]

✿ Refutation of Rejection Based on “Mursal Ṣaḥābī”

Some individuals reject this narration claiming it is a “Mursal Ṣaḥābī” (a Companion’s disconnected report). This rejection is invalid, because:

There is unanimous agreement among the muḥaddithīn (hadith scholars) on the ḥujjiyyah (authoritativeness) of a Mursal report by a Companion.
There is no scholarly disagreement on this matter.

✅ Final Note

Whoever denies authentic prophetic ḥadīths and miracles is merely following his own desires. Such rejection is a sign of submission to self-fabricated whims. However:

Every action—whether noble or evil—will soon reach its destined outcome.
