Ruling on Attending the Funeral of a Qādiyānī Child and His Fate
Source: Fatāwā Muḥammadiyyah, Vol.1, p.119
The Question
A ten-day-old child of a Qādiyānī family passed away. A Muslim led his funeral prayer, and other Muslims joined knowingly, despite being aware it was the funeral of a Qādiyānī child. What is the ruling for those who participated?
The Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:
Qādiyānīs, Lāhorīs, and Rabwah Sect Are Non-Muslims
✿ All groups of Qādiyānīs (Qādiyānī, Lāhorī, and Rabwah Mirzā’īs) are disbelievers and outside Islam.
✿ The Ummah is unanimous on this ruling.
✿ This verdict also applies to their children.
Funeral of a Qādiyānī Child
✿ Just as it is disbelief to pray the funeral of an adult Qādiyānī, the same applies to their minor children.
✿ In Islamic law, children follow the ruling of their parents.
✿ If parents are disbelievers, their minor children are not treated as Muslims in Sharʿī rulings.
Evidences from Qur’ān and Sunnah
Qur’ān:
“Muḥammad ﷺ is not the father of any man among you, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets.”
Aḥādīth:
➊ Ḥadīth of Ṭufayl ibn Abī ibn Kaʿb — The Prophet ﷺ said: “I am that final brick completing the building of prophethood.” (Aḥmad, Tirmidhī, Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr 3/509)
➋ Ḥadīth of Anas ibn Mālik — “The line of messengers and prophets has ended; after me there will be no prophet and no messenger.” (Aḥmad, Tirmidhī, Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr 3/509)
➌ Ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah — The Prophet ﷺ said: “…and by me prophethood is sealed.” (Muslim, Mishkāt 2/512, Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr 3/510)
➍ Ḥadīth of Jābir ibn ʿAbdillāh — “I am that final brick; with me the prophets have ended.” (Bukhārī, Muslim, Tirmidhī)
➎ Ḥadīth of Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim — “I am al-ʿĀqib, after whom there is no prophet.” (Bukhārī 1/501)
Scholarly Consensus
- Imām Ibn Kathīr رحمه الله: Anyone claiming prophethood after the Prophet ﷺ is a liar, impostor, and misguided. (Tafsīr 3/510)
- Shaykh al-Ḥadīth Maulānā Muḥammad ʿAbduh al-Falāḥ: The descent of ʿĪsā عليه السلام does not negate Khatm al-Nubuwwah, as he will follow the Sharīʿah of Muḥammad ﷺ.
- Maulānā Abū al-Wafā’ Thānā’ullāh Amritsarī رحمه الله: The Mirzā’ī sect prioritizes Mirzā Ghulām Ahmad’s statements over the Prophet ﷺ — Muslims must have no relation with them. (Fatāwā Thanā’iyyah 1/375)
- Sayyid Naẓīr Ḥusayn رحمه الله: Whoever denies the finality of the Prophet ﷺ is a kāfir and will remain eternally in Hell. (Fatāwā Naẓīriyyah 1/12)
Final Ruling
✿ All sects of Qādiyānīs are disbelievers and outside the fold of Islam.
✿ Whoever:
➊ doubts their disbelief,
➋ participates in their occasions (funerals, marriages, etc.),
➌ prays their janāzah,
is under the same ruling unless he repents.
✿ Relations, social gatherings, eating with them, and attending their funerals are ḥarām and forbidden.
✿ Considering them Muslims is itself misguidance and disbelief.
