◈ Legal Rulings Pertaining to Bayʿ al-Salam and Financial Debts ◈

❖ Bayʿ al-Salam (Forward Sale)

Bayʿ al-Salam — also known as Bayʿ al-Salaf — refers to a transaction where the price is paid in advance, but the goods are not immediately delivered.

Key Characteristics:

✔ The item to be delivered must be clearly defined in quantity and quality.
✔ The payment is made in full at the time of the contract.
✔ The seller becomes obligated to deliver the specified goods at a fixed future date.

This type of sale is permissible in Sharīʿah under specific conditions and is beneficial in cases where the seller requires upfront capital and the buyer is willing to wait for the delivery.

❖ Dayn (Debts)

Dayn is the plural of “dīn”, which refers to:

Any financial liability or obligation that is due upon a person.

✔ It includes all forms of monetary obligations whether resulting from sales, services, loans, or guarantees.
✔ It is a general term, and loan (qarḍ) is considered one of its specific types.

In Islamic jurisprudence, the proper recording, repayment, and ethical conduct regarding dayn are emphasized, as they pertain to the rights of others (ḥuqūq al-ʿibād).
