This excerpt is taken from A Research Review of the Objections and Difficulties of Mirza Muhammad Ali Engineer, compiled by Harun bin Shabbir Ahmad (may Allah preserve him) and revised by Fadilat al-Shaykh Maulana Muhammad Rafiq Tahir (may Allah preserve him).

Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) in the eyes of Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him):

Ali Mirza, staying consistent with his own narration, here too mentions only the negative side and criticises Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), whereas we have proven in the light of evidence that this very narration is weak. Now look at the other side of the picture, and decide how far the impression that Mirza gives about Mu’awiyah and the Ahl al-Bayt (may Allah be pleased with them) is correct:

“It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ suck his tongue,’ or he said, ‘his lip,’ meaning al-Hasan ibn Ali (peace of Allah be upon him), ‘and a tongue, or two lips, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has sucked will never be punished.'”

Its chain is sahih (authentic). Allamah Shu’ayb al-Arna’ut in his takhrij of Musnad Ahmad, and Allamah Ghulam Mustafa Zahir Amanpuri in Difa’ Sahaba: p. 432, have declared it sahih.
Now who is saying this? Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him)! The very man about whom Mirza keeps giving the impression that he was, we seek refuge in Allah, an enemy of the Ahl al-Bayt. So tell us, would anyone ever describe the virtues of his enemy? And mention him with good? We say: may Allah’s curse be on the liars. The question is: why does Engineer not relate these narrations to the general public? Yet he also levels the false accusation of concealing the truth against us instead. It is plainly clear that speaking the truth is mere fraud. Your only aim is to spread slander and a negative impression and to promote Rafidism, so that somehow you can prove the Companions and the Ahl al-Bayt to be enemies.
Yet it becomes perfectly clear that Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) had no enmity with the Ahl al-Bayt and Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him), but rather held feelings of love for them. And this is the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah.
Imam Abu Bakr Muhammad bin al-Husayn al-Ajurri (may Allah have mercy on him) is among the imams of Ahl al-Sunnah. He (may Allah have mercy on him) wrote the book “Al-Shari’ah”, containing a defence of the noble Companions and the Ahl al-Bayt (may Allah be pleased with them) and the beliefs of Ahl al-Sunnah. In it, under the virtues, merits and good mention of Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), he establishes a chapter as follows:

بَابُ ذِكْرِ تَعْظِيمِ مُعَاوِيَةَ لِأَهْلِ بَيْتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَإِكْرَامِهِ إِيَّاهُمْ۔

“Mention of Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah’s (may Allah be pleased with him) veneration and honouring of the Ahl al-Bayt of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.”
In it he (may Allah have mercy on him) also brings this narration:

“Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that when Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him): ‘This superiority alone would have been enough for you over (my son) Yazid, that your mother is from Quraysh and his mother is a woman from Banu Kalb, but (a superiority many times greater than that is) that your mother is Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'”

Maulana Irshad al-Haq Athari (may Allah preserve him) declared its chain hasan (good).

Reference: (Maqam-e-Sahaba: 153)

And then Imam Abu Bakr al-Ajurri (may Allah have mercy on him) brought a testimony from among the Ahl al-Bayt, from Imam Abu Ja’far al-Baqir (may Allah have mercy on him) with a sahih chain, that he (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

أَنَّ الْحَسَنَ وَالْحُسَيْنَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا كَانَا يَقْبَلَانِ جَوَائِزَ مُعَاوِيَةَ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ۔

“Sayyiduna Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to accept the stipends of Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him).”

Are these narrations not present in the books of Ahl al-Sunnah? Is relating them not speaking the truth? Then why, after all, are these narrations not related?
Mirza too is compelled to admit that Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) treated Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) well. Accordingly, he says in a video:
“Hadrat Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) kept treating Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) well his whole life………… but over all, Hadrat Mu’awiyah’s (may Allah be pleased with him) attitude toward Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) was very good.”

So, truthful sir! Do relate those narrations about good treatment sometime too! Why is only the negative side always blown up? And why is hatred of the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) being filled into people’s hearts? And why is this impression given all the time that Hadrat Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) harboured hostility and enmity toward the Ahl al-Bayt?
This trickery of theirs must be understood; their aim is not speaking the truth at all. In this very statement of yours lies the answer to all those difficulties and objections that you level at Hadrat Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) in this regard: if Hadrat Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) kept treating Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) well his whole life, then how could he be happy at his death? Or (we seek refuge in Allah) how could he be a participant in his killing?
