Source: Fatawa Arkan al-Islam
Question
When the Imam makes du‘a at the end of the Friday khutbah, is saying “Ameen” to it considered a bid‘ah?
Answer
Alhamdulillah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. To proceed:
- This practice is not a bid‘ah.
- When the khatib makes du‘a for the Muslims during the khutbah, it is mustahabb (recommended) to say “Ameen” to his supplication.
Etiquette of Saying Ameen
✿ Do not say “Ameen” loudly or in unison with the congregation.
✿ Each individual should say it quietly to themselves.
✿ This prevents disturbance or distraction during the khutbah and preserves its dignity.
Best Practice:
Each person should say “Ameen” softly and individually when the Imam makes du‘a.
