❖ Question

In one mosque, Jumuʿah prayer has been conducted for a long time. Some individuals have built another mosque nearby and are demanding that it be declared the central Jami‘ mosque. Is this permissible?

❖ Answer

If the transition of Jumuʿah prayer is not based on conflict or stubbornness, the matter should be resolved amicably among the community. The demand to designate a new mosque as a Jami‘ mosque should not be made out of pride or sectarian bias.

If the first mosque is small or inconveniently located and the new mosque is larger and more accessible, then utilizing its facilities is permissible. The location of the Jumuʿah prayer may be altered based on the needs of the congregation.
