Prohibition of Breaking the Bones of the Deceased
① It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: Breaking the bones of a believer in the state of death is, in terms of sin, like breaking his bones during his life.
Prohibition of Lamenting over the Deceased
① Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
اثنتان فى الناس هما بهم كفر: الطعن فى النسب، والنياحة على الميت
“There are two traits among people because of which they commit disbelief: insulting lineage and lamenting over the dead.”
② Sayyiduna Abu Malik al-Ash’ari رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
النائحة إذا لم تتب قبل موتها تقام يوم القيامة وعليها سربال من قطران ودرع من جرب
“If a woman who laments does not repent before death, she will be raised on the Day of Resurrection wearing a tarcoal pajama and a scabby shirt.”
③ Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
الميت يعذب فى قبره بما نيح عليه
“The deceased is punished in the grave because of the lamentation made over him.”
④ Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id al-Khudri رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم cursed both the woman who laments and the one who listens to the lamentation.
Prohibition of Announcing a Death
① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to forbid announcing a death. And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
إياكم والنعي فإنه من عمل الجاهلية
“Avoid announcing a death because it is from the practices of ignorance.”
② Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) states, when I die, do not inform anyone about me, I fear that it may be included in the announcement of death, and I have heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbidding the announcement of a death.
