Question
Is it correct that Allah Almighty first created Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from His light, and then from the light and sweat of the Prophet ﷺ, all creatures such as the heavens, the earth, the Throne, the Footstool, the Preserved Tablet, the Pen, Paradise, Hell, and the angels were created? Please explain this with correct evidence.
Answer
This belief is actually an invention of those who hold polytheistic ideas. They think that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is not an ordinary human but light. For them, “light” means that (العیاذ بالله) Allah Almighty separated light from His blessed essence and created the Prophet ﷺ from it. In other words, according to them, Allah Almighty is a material entity from which a part is taken out to create another thing, like taking something out of a heap of clay.
Such a belief is outright disbelief. Its necessary consequence is:
If a part is taken out from Allah’s essence, then a void remains there.
Secondly, the Prophet ﷺ would have to be considered a part of Allah Himself.
For this reason, such misguided people do not hesitate to recite the following blasphemous couplets:
He who was on the Throne as God
Descended in Medina as Mustafa (the Chosen One)
This is the same claim that the Christians made about Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him):
“Indeed, Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.”
Regrettably, some so-called Muslims have also adopted this belief and started to consider the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as Allah, even though the Holy Quran explicitly states at several places that the Prophet ﷺ was a human being and nowhere mentions that he ﷺ is light.
Evidence from the Quran
“Say: My Lord is pure, I am only a human being and a messenger.”
➝ This means that the Prophet ﷺ is nothing but a human and a messenger.
“Say: I am also a human being like you, but revelation is sent to me.”
“Say: I am also a human being like you; revelation is sent to me.”
➝ In these verses, the Prophet ﷺ is repeatedly described as a human being, but there is no specification of him being light.
To whom is the term “Light” applied in the Quran?
Wherever the term “Light” is mentioned in the Holy Quran, it refers to the Quran itself, not the person of the Prophet ﷺ.
“Those who believe in the Prophet, honor him, help him, and follow the light which has been sent down with him, they are the successful.”
➝ Here, “Light” refers to the revelation that was sent down with the Prophet ﷺ, i.e., the Holy Quran.
“Believe in Allah, His Messenger, and the Light which We have sent down, and Allah is well aware of what you do.”
➝ In this verse as well, “Light” refers only to the Quran.
Why is the Quran called “Light”?
Just as everything is clearly visible in light, similarly the Holy Quran takes a person out of the darkness of disbelief and polytheism into the light of faith and guidance.
Through the Quran, it becomes clear what faith is and what disbelief is, what guidance is and what misguidance is.
Doubt Regarding the Verse of Surah Al-Ma’idah
Some people argue:
“Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book.”
They say that “light” refers to the Prophet ﷺ and “clear book” refers to the Quran.
Response to This Doubt
In the Holy Quran, at many places, different attributes are mentioned together for the same thing.
Both “light” and “clear book” apply to the Quran itself.
This style appears repeatedly in the Quran.
For example:
“Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Quran.”
“Ta Seen. These are the verses of the Quran and a clear Book.”
➝ In both these places, “Book” and “Quran” both apply to the same thing, i.e., the Quran, not to separate entities.
Example of this style in Surah Al-Ahzab
Allah Almighty described various attributes of the Prophet ﷺ:
“O Prophet! We have sent you as a witness, a bringer of good tidings, a warner, one who calls to Allah by His permission, and as a shining lamp.”
➝ Here “witness,” “bearer of glad tidings,” “warner,” “caller,” and “shining lamp” are all attributes of you ﷺ. These are not separate entities.
Summary
Therefore, in the verse of Surah Al-Ma’idah, the “light” also refers to the Quran. The Quran has never called the Prophet ﷺ light but has repeatedly clarified that you ﷺ are a human being.
The meaning of “ma” in the verse: ﴿
Misguided sects create doubt among the public in some gatherings that this verse:
means that “ma” here is for negation. That is (according to them):
“I am not a human like you.”
Correct meaning
This meaning is completely false.
Actually, it is a word of restriction.
Its meaning is:
“I am only a human being like you, but revelation is sent to me.”
Explanation by the grammarians
Allama Ibn Hisham Ansari, may Allah have mercy on him
, states:
Meaning: Here “ما” is not for negation but “إنما” comes to make a restrictive statement.
➝ This means that “إِنَّمَا” is always for restriction, not for negation.
What if “ما” is considered negation?
If, hypothetically, “ما” is considered negation, then the meanings of the verses become strange and blasphemous:
Correct meaning: “Indeed, the polytheists are impure.”
According to their principle: “The polytheists are not impure.”
Correct meaning: “Indeed, the believers are brothers among themselves.”
According to their principle: “The believers are not brothers.”
Correct meaning: “Say: Knowledge is only with Allah, and I am only a clear warner.”
According to their principle: “Knowledge is not with Allah, nor am I a warner.”
Conclusion
Considering “ما” as negation is disrespectful to the Quran.
It leads to incorrect and blasphemous meanings of the words of the Quran.
The correct understanding is that “إِنَّمَا” comes for restriction, and the correct meaning of the verses is that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is a human upon whom revelation is sent.
Fake narration: “Noor-e-Muhammadi”
Some individuals present a narration as evidence for their belief, which is attributed to Sayyiduna Jabir The words of the narration are:
Translation:
Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه narrates that I said: O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you, please tell me what was the first thing Allah Almighty created?
You ﷺ said: O Jabir! Indeed, Allah Almighty created the light of your Prophet from His light before all things…
Authenticity of the Narration
There is no authentic chain of transmission for this narration.
This narration is baseless and fabricated.
It is attributed to the author Abdul Razzaq, but it does not exist at all in the works of Abdul Razzaq.
Warning Against Lying on the Prophet ﷺ
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Translation:
“Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him prepare his abode in Hell.”
➝ From this warning, it is understood that fabricating or spreading such narrations is a very serious crime.
Another Fabricated Narration
Similarly, some scholars also narrate this hadith:
Translation:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah created me from His light, then Abu Bakr was created from my light, Umar from Abu Bakr’s light, and my Ummah from Umar’s light.
Criticism by Muhaddithin
Imam Zahabi, may Allah have mercy on him, states
:
This hadith is false and contradicts the Quran.
Its narrators are liars and unreliable:
Abu Ma’shar: liar (fabricator)
Abu Shu’aib al-Susi: abandoned (matruk)
Haitham: weak (da’if)
Ahmad ibn Yusuf Munjabi: unknown and obscure
➝ Therefore, this hadith is entirely false, and no belief can be established from it.
Summary
All narrations regarding the “Light of Muhammad” are baseless and fabricated.
The Muhaddithin have strongly rejected them.
Forming beliefs based on these narrations is against the Quran and Sunnah.
Summary and Verdict
The Holy Quran repeatedly clarifies the humanity of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
“Say: I am only a man like you, but the revelation is sent down to me.”
In the Quran, the term “Noor” (light) is applied exclusively and solely to the Quran, not to the person of the Prophet ﷺ.
All narrations described under the name “Noor Muhammadi” are fabricated (false) or weak (without reliable chains). Hadith scholars have severely criticized them and declared them unreliable.
Holding such a belief is actually derived from polytheistic ideas and resembles the belief of the Christians, who considered Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) as God.
The Real Cause of Misguidance
These people distort the clear Arabic rules of the Quran.
They fabricate false narrations to deceive the public.
The reality is that there is no basis for this belief in the Quran and authentic hadith.
Conclusion
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is Allah’s chosen human and His final prophet, not light.
The term “Noor” is used only for the Quran because it grants guidance and illumination.
The belief in “Noor Muhammadi” is false and baseless.
