❀ Question
Zaid claims that it is not permissible to give the Adhan without the permission of the appointed Mu’adhin, even if it causes a delay. Is this claim correct?
❀ Answer
Zaid’s claim is not correct, because he has no Shar‘i evidence to support it. The basic ruling is as follows:
① If the Imam is present, then no one else should lead the prayer.
② Likewise, if a Mu’adhin is appointed, then no one should give the Adhan without his permission.
③ However, if the Mu’adhin is not present at the appointed time and there is delay in the Adhan, then another person may give the Adhan.
❀ Evidence from Hadith
A Hadith narrates an incident where the Prophet ﷺ was delayed due to some task, and a Companion led the congregational prayer. When the Prophet ﷺ arrived, he joined the prayer and completed the remaining rak‘ah behind that Companion.
❀ Explanation
This incident occurred during a journey, and the prayer was Fajr (morning prayer). ‘Abdur-Rahman ibn ‘Awf (رضي الله عنه) led the congregation, and the Prophet ﷺ offered one rak‘ah behind him.
