❀ Ruling on Raising Hands in Du‘ā’ al-Qunūt During Witr ❀
✦ Fatwa by: Former Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Shaykh Ibn Bāz (رحمه الله)

❖ Question:

What is the ruling on raising the hands during Du‘ā’ in Witr prayer?

❖ Answer:

Raising the hands during Du‘ā’ al-Qunūt in Witr is legislated (Mashrū‘).
This is because Du‘ā’ al-Qunūt in Witr falls under the same category as Qunūt during times of calamity (Qunūt al-Nāzilah).

The Prophet ﷺ used to raise his hands while making Du‘ā’ during Qunūt al-Nāzilah, as authentically reported:

③ The practice is supported by authentic narrations.
