Is It Better to Say the Iqamah With the Permission of the Mu’adhdhin?
Source: Ahkam wa Masail, Kitab al-Salat, Vol.1, p.120
Question:
When the Mu’adhdhin calls the Adhan, and someone else says the Iqamah (Taqbeer) without his permission, what is the ruling? Should the Iqamah be said with the Mu’adhdhin’s permission, or can it be done without it?
Answer:
Alhamdulillah, wassalatu wassalamu ‘ala Rasulillah, amma ba‘d!
The better and more virtuous way is that the Iqamah (Taqbeer) should be said with the permission of the Mu’adhdhin. If the Mu’adhdhin is present and he has given the Adhan, then before saying the Iqamah, it is preferable to seek his permission, so that the order and discipline of the congregation remain intact and no disruption occurs.
This is a sign of etiquette and proper organization that the one who gives the Adhan should also give the Iqamah, or if it is assigned to someone else, then it should be with his consent.
