Book of Drinks
Disposing of Alcohol
① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about the alcohol inherited by orphans, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
أهرقها “Pour it out.”
He asked: “Shall I not make vinegar out of it?” He replied:
لا “No.”
② Sayyiduna Abu Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we had an orphan’s alcohol, and when Surah Al-Ma’idah was revealed, I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about the matter and informed him that it belonged to the orphan, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
أهرقوه “Pour it out.”
Etiquettes of Drinking Water
① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم drank water, he would take three breaths.
② It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم drank water, he would take three breaths and said:
إنه أروىٰ وأبرأ وأمرأ
“Drinking in this way provides more quenching, more benefit, and more blessing.”
Covering the Vessel
① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
أغطوا الإناء وأوكوا السقاء فإن فى السنة ليلة ينزل فيها وباء لا يمر بإناء ليس عليه غطاء أو سقاء ليس عليه وكاء إلا نزل فيه من ذٰلك الوباء
“Cover the utensils and tie the water skins, for there is a night in the year in which a plague descends. When it passes by any utensil that is not covered, or any water skin that is not tied, the plague enters it.”
② Sayyiduna Abu Humaid رضي الله عنه reports that I brought a bowl of milk from Naqi’ to the presence of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, but it was not covered. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
ألا خمرته ولو تعرض عليه عودا
“You should have covered it, even if you just placed a piece of wood on it.”
