عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، أَنَّهَا أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ جَارِيَةً فَتُعْتِقَهَا ، فَقَالَ أَهْلُهَا : نَبِيعُكِهَا عَلَى أَنَّ وَلاءَهَا لَنَا ، فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " لا يَمْنَعُكِ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّمَا الْوَلاءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that Sayyidah Aisha, Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), intended to buy a slave girl and set her free. The owners of the slave girl said, "We will sell her on the condition that the right of allegiance (wala’) will be ours." This matter was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace be upon him) said: "Nothing should prevent you from buying the slave girl; the right of allegiance belongs to the one who sets her free."
