It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) attacked the people of Khaybar early in the morning. At that time, they had just come out of their fortresses with their women. When they saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), they cried out: "Muhammad (ﷺ) has come with an army, Muhammad (ﷺ) has come with an army!" Then they ran towards the fortress. The Prophet (ﷺ) raised his hands and said three takbirs: "Allahu Akbar! Khaybar is destroyed. Whenever we descend upon the land of a people (for jihad), then the morning of those who have been warned becomes evil." When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) conquered Khaybar, some donkeys became available to the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), whose meat they cooked. In the meantime, a caller from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) announced: "Beware! Indeed Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) forbid you from this meat. Indeed, donkeys are impure." Upon hearing the announcement, they overturned the pots.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): People think that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) forbade eating the meat of domestic donkeys. This matter has reached us from Hakam bin Amr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him), who narrates from the Prophet (ﷺ). But the ocean of knowledge, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), rejected this and, as his evidence, recited the verse of the Noble Qur’an: “O beloved, say: I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden to an eater that he eats...” Then the mention of the prohibited things follows. (In which there is no mention of the donkey.)

Please help me." So Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "If your owners agree, I will pay your amount (in one lump sum), but your relationship (wala’) of freedom will be for me." Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) went and made the offer to her owners, but they did not agree, so Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) returned while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was also present with Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). She said, "I made the offer to them, but they insist that the wala’ should be for them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard this, and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) explained the details. He ﷺ said, "Buy her and stipulate the condition of wala’. The relationship of wala’ belongs to the one who sets free." Then he addressed the people and said: "Amma ba'd! What is wrong with people that they stipulate conditions which are not in the Book of Allah? Every condition that is not in accordance with the Book of Allah is invalid, even if there are a hundred such conditions. Allah’s decision is true, and Allah’s condition is the strongest.
