It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "When two people share ownership of a slave and one of them frees his share, if the one who freed is wealthy, then the highest value of the slave will be estimated, and he (the slave) will be freed on behalf of the first (owner)." Amr bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) says: In estimating the value, there should be neither decrease nor increase.

If he does not have wealth, then only that portion of the slave will be considered free which he has freed."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) who says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I have a slave girl who used to herd goats. I went to her and found that one goat was missing. I asked her about the goat, and she said that a wolf had eaten it. I was extremely saddened by this (because) I am also from the children of Adam, so I slapped her on the face. I had vowed to free a slave; should I free her? (So the slave girl was brought.) The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: “Tell me, where is Allah?” She replied: “In the heavens.” He (peace and blessings be upon him) then asked: “Who am I?” She said: “You are the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).” Upon this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Free her.” So Umar bin Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! There are some things we used to do in the days of ignorance; we used to go to fortune-tellers. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not go to them (after Islam).” Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We used to determine fate through birds as well? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “This is a whisper that comes into your hearts; birds and bad omens should not prevent you from doing anything.” Imam Muzani (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Imam Shafi’i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) used to mention his name as Umar bin Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him), although it was Mu’awiyah bin Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him).

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If you do not find anything else, then sacrifice the one-year-old animal."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon on the day of sacrifice. He praised and glorified Allah, then said: “Do not offer the sacrifice before performing the prayer.” Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: My maternal uncle stood up and said, “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! On this day, people desire meat. I have already offered my sacrifice, from which I fed my family and neighbors.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If you have done so, then offer another sacrifice in its place.” My uncle said, “I have a one-year-old milking (young) goat, which is better than two meat goats.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “This is your best sacrifice (so offer it), but after you, it will not suffice for anyone to offer a one-year-old animal as sacrifice.” The narrator, Abdul Wahhab, says: I think it was a kid goat. Imam Shafi’i (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the meaning of ‘anaq’ is a young female goat, as the narrator Abdul Wahhab said. “Dhaiya ko darkhal” is said. The meaning of “better than two goats” is that he slaughtered two goats, one before the prayer, which was not counted as sacrifice, and the other after the prayer, so the latter was better because it was counted as sacrifice. The meaning of “it will not suffice for anyone after you” is that this was specific to him, and the milking goat means that the goat was kept for the purpose of milk, not for slaughter.

So the Prophet ﷺ prayed for blessing in my buying and selling. After that, even if he bought dust, he would profit from it. (Meaning, whatever he bought, there was blessing in it.)
