أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِجَابِرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ : إِنَّهُمْ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنْ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ الأَهْلِيَّةِ " ، قَالَ : قَدْ كَانَ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ الْحَكَمُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْغِفَارِيُّ عِنْدَنَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَكِنْ أَبَى ذَلِكَ الْبَحْرُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَقَرَأَ : قُلْ لا أَجِدُ فِي مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ مُحَرَّمًا عَلَى طَاعِمٍ يَطْعَمُهُ سورة الأنعام آية 145 الآيَةَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): People think that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) forbade eating the meat of domestic donkeys. This matter has reached us from Hakam bin Amr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him), who narrates from the Prophet (ﷺ). But the ocean of knowledge, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), rejected this and, as his evidence, recited the verse of the Noble Qur’an: “O beloved, say: I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden to an eater that he eats...” Then the mention of the prohibited things follows. (In which there is no mention of the donkey.)
