Hadith 33

أَنْبَأَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أُكَيْمَةَ اللَّيْثِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ صَلاةٍ جَهَرَ فِيهَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقَالَ : " هَلْ قَرَأَ مَعِي أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ آنِفًا ؟ " قَالَ رَجُلٌ : نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ . قَالَ : " إِنِّي أَقُولُ : مَا لِيَ أُنَازَعُ الْقُرْآنَ ؟ " قَالَ : فَانْتَهَى النَّاسُ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيمَا جَهَرَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الصَّلَوَاتِ حِينَ سَمِعُوا ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished a prayer in which he had recited aloud. He (peace be upon him) asked: "Did any of you recite (anything) with me just now?" A man said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" He (peace be upon him) said: "I also say, why is it that I am experiencing difficulty in reciting the Qur'an?" Imam Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when the people heard this statement of his, they refrained from reciting aloud in the prayers in which the recitation is to be done aloud.
