عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ بُشَيْرِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ ، " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ الثَّمَرِ بِالتَّمْرِ إِلا أَنَّهُ رَخَّصَ فِي بَيْعِ الْعَرِيَّةِ أَنْ تُبَاعَ بِخَرْصِهَا مِنَ التَّمْرِ يَأْكُلُهَا أَهْلُهَا رُطَبًا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade the sale of fruit for fruit except in the case of ‘Ariyyah sale. ‘Ariyyah sale is that the fruit on the date palm is estimated and taken in exchange for dry dates as fresh dates for the family to eat.
