Hadith 119

وَحَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا اشْتَدَّ الْحَرُّ فَأَبْرِدُوا بِالصَّلاةِ فَإِنَّ شِدَّةَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ " ، قَالَ : " وَشَكَتِ النَّارُ إِلَى رَبِّهَا عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَبِّ أَكَلَ بَعْضِي بَعْضًا فَأَذِنَ لَهَا بِنَفَسَيْنِ نَفَسٍ فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَنَفَسٍ فِي الصَّيْفِ فَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْحَرِّ مِنْ حَرِّهَا ، وَأَشَدُّ مَا تَجِدُونَ مِنَ الْبَرْدِ مِنْ زَمْهَرِيرِهَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the heat becomes intense, perform the prayer at a cooler time, for the severity of heat is from the steam of Hell." And he said: "Hell complained to its Lord, saying, 'O my Lord! Some parts of me have consumed others.' So Allah Almighty allowed it two breaths: one breath in the winter and one in the summer. The extreme heat and the extreme cold that you experience are due to this."
