Bayhaqi Q5850 — One whose wudu is broken asks the imam for permission

Allah, exalted be His praise, says: "And when they are with him on a matter of common concern, they do not leave until they have asked his permission." [Surah al-Nur: 62]
Imam Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "This refers to jihad and the Friday prayer, and the imam's permission is that he gestures with his hand."
And it is narrated from Sa'id bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "This concerns war and similar occasions."
And it is reported about Imam Makhul (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "This concerns jihad and the Friday prayer, and this verse is not abrogated."
And it is narrated from Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "I saw the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all) asking the imam's permission while he was delivering the sermon; the one asking permission would gesture with his hand, and the imam would gesture in reply, and no one would speak."
And Imam Malik bin Anas (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say: "When a person wishes to leave on Friday, he is not obliged to seek the imam's permission"; and what (is narrated next) indicates the correctness of his view.
