Ibrahim said that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When a free woman is married to a slave and she has borne him a child, that child becomes free along with his mother's freedom, and his wala belongs to those who freed his mother. When the father is freed, the child's wala is then transferred to those who freed the father.
This is munqati' (its chain is broken), and it has been narrated from Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) with a connected chain.

Al-Aswad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When a slave marries a free woman and she gives birth, the children become free along with their mother's freedom, and their wala belongs to those who freed their mother. When the father is freed, the wala is transferred to those who freed the father.

Hisham bin Urwah narrated from his father that al-Zubayr and Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with them both) brought a dispute before Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him): a freedwoman of Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) was married to a slave, and she had children by that slave; then al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) bought the slave and freed him. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the judgement of wala in favour of al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hisham bin Urwah narrated from his father that they brought their dispute before Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the judgement in favour of Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith Referenceالسنن الكبرى للبيهقي / كتاب الولاء / 21519
Yahya bin Abd al-Rahman bin Hatib (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Khaybar and saw some bright young men, and their elegance pleased him. He asked about them and was told: They are freedmen of Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him); their mother is a free woman, a freedwoman of Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him), and their father is a slave of the tribe of Ashja'. So al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) bought their father and freed him, then said to the young men: "Trace your affiliation to me, for you are my freedmen." Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Rather, they are my freedmen; they were born while their mother was free and their father was a slave." The two of them brought the dispute to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and he judged in favour of al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him).
This is what is well known from Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him); and something contrary to it has been narrated from al-Zuhri from Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) with a broken (munqati') chain.

Al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Khaybar and saw some young men whose condition pleased him. He asked about them and was told: They are freedmen of Banu Harithah; their mother is also a freedwoman of Banu Harithah, and their father is a slave. So al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) bought their father and freed him. Then a dispute arose between al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Banu Harithah concerning the wala, which came before Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the judgement in favour of Banu Harithah and said that wala is not transferred.
So he said; but the first narration from Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) is more authentic because of its supporting reports, and the mursal reports of al-Zuhri are poor.

Abdullah bin Hubayrah said that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gave a judgement concerning a slave who was married to a free woman; she bore children, who were freed because of their mother's freedom, and then their father was freed. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Their wala belongs to the agnatic relatives ('asabah) of their father."

Al-Aswad bin Yazid narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that when a slave is freed, he draws to himself the wala of his children. Qadi Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) used to give the judgement for the child's wala in favour of those who had freed his mother; then al-Aswad told Qadi Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) the statement of Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and he judged according to it.
This is how Jabir al-Ju'fi narrated it, from al-Sha'bi, from al-Aswad.
Hadith Referenceالسنن الكبرى للبيهقي / كتاب الولاء / 21524
Ibrahim said: Qadi Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) would hardly ever go back on a judgement he had given, until al-Aswad bin Yazid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated to him from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said, concerning a free woman who is married to a slave and bears him children, and then their father is freed: their wala passes to those who freed their father. So Qadi Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) adopted it.
This chain is sahih (authentic), and it is possible that al-Aswad narrated it to him from both Umar and Ibn Mas'ud, and Allah knows best.

Hajjaj bin Artah narrated from Wabarah that Qadi Shurayh used to judge that when a slave marries a free woman and they have children, the wala belongs to their mother. He was told that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that when the father is freed, the wala passes to those who freed the father. So Qadi Shurayh abandoned his view.
