Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn Mas'ud, recite to me." I said: Shall I recite to you when the Qur'an is revealed to you (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: I began reciting Surah al-Nisa'. When I reached: "How will it be when We bring a witness from every nation, and bring you as a witness against these?" [Surah al-Nisa': 41], then
he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is enough." When I looked at him (peace and blessings be upon him), tears were flowing from both his eyes.

Abd al-Rahman bin al-Sa'ib (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us. I came to him to greet him. He asked about my lineage and I told him my lineage, and he said: Welcome to my nephew. He said: I have learned that you have a beautiful voice. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "This Qur'an was revealed with sorrow, so when you recite it, weep; and if you cannot weep, then try to weep."
(b) In the narration of Abu Abdullah: Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us after he had lost his sight, and I came to him to greet him. He asked: Who are you? I told him, and he said: O my nephew! Then he mentioned the hadith, and at its end it adds: "And recite it melodiously, for whoever does not recite it melodiously has nothing to do with us."
