Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears a binding oath in order to usurp the property of a Muslim brother, while he is lying in that oath, will meet Allah Almighty in a state where Allah Almighty is angry with him."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears a binding oath to usurp the property of a Muslim will meet Allah while Allah is angry with him." Its confirmation is in the Book of Allah: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price." [Surah Al Imran: 77] Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) came in and said: What has Abu Abd al-Rahman narrated to you? They said: Such-and-such. He said: He has spoken the truth; this verse was revealed about me. I had a dispute with a man over land in Yemen. We brought the dispute to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have proof?" I said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then his oath." I said: In that case he will swear. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears a false oath to usurp the property of a Muslim will meet Allah in a state where Allah is angry with him." The words of Allah are: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price." [Surah Al Imran: 77]

Abu Wa'il (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever usurps the property of a Muslim by means of a false oath will meet Allah while Allah is angry with him." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited to us this verse: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price." [Surah Al Imran: 77]

Raja' bin Haywah and al-Urs bin Amirah narrate from his father Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was a dispute between Imru' al-Qays and a man from Hadramawt. They brought the dispute to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring your proof, or else he takes the oath." He said: O Messenger of Allah! He will take my land by swearing. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever takes his brother's property by means of a false oath will meet Allah while Allah is angry with him." Imru' al-Qays said: O Messenger of Allah! And one who gives it (the land) up even though he is in the right? He said: "He will have Paradise." He said: It is certainly mine, but I give it up.
(b) Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) said that in the hadith of al-Urs bin Amirah (may Allah be pleased with him) it is that this verse was revealed: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price." [Surah Al Imran: 77]

Alqamah bin Wa'il narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from Hadramawt and a man from Kindah came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Hadrami said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! This man has seized my father's land. The Kindi said: O Messenger of Allah! It is my land and I farm it; no one has any right in it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Hadrami: "Do you have proof?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then you are owed his oath." He said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! He is a wicked man; he does not care about oaths, and he refrains from nothing. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have nothing from him except that." So he went off to take the oath. When he turned away, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he swears an oath in order to consume property unjustly, then when he meets Allah, Allah will be turning away from him."

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever consumes the property of a Muslim brother by means of an oath, Allah has made Paradise forbidden for him and made Hell obligatory for him." They said: Even if it is something small? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if it is a twig of an arak tree." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said it three times.

Ibn Abi Mulaykah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I wrote to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about two women who were stitching leather in a house, while there were young girls in the room. One of them came out with blood flowing from her hand and said: "She struck me." The other denied it. So Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) wrote to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled that the oath is upon the defendant: "If people were given according to their claims, people would claim the blood and property of others. Summon her and recite this verse to her:" "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allah will not speak to them or look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and for them is a painful punishment." [Surah Al Imran: 77] He said: She confessed, and when this reached Ibn Abbas, it pleased him.
