أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ، ثنا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي ثَابِتُ بْنُ الضَّحَّاكِ قَالَ: نَذَرَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَنْحَرَ بِبُوَانَةَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " هَلْ كَانَ فِيهَا وَثَنٌ مِنْ أَوْثَانِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يُعْبَدُ؟ "، قَالُوا: لَا، قَالَ: " فَهَلْ كَانَ فِيهَا عِيدٌ مِنْ أَعْيَادِهِمْ؟ "، قَالُوا: لَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَوْفِ بِنَذْرِكَ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا وَفَاءَ لِنَذْرٍ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللهِ، وَلَا فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ ابْنُ آدَمَ "..
Sayyiduna Thabit bin al-Dahhak (may Allah be pleased with him) states that in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a man vowed to sacrifice a camel at a place called Buwanah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Was there any idol of the idols of the Jahiliyyah there that used to be worshipped?" They said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is any festival held there?" They said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fulfil your vow. A vow of disobedience is not to be fulfilled, nor is it necessary to fulfil a vow concerning what the son of Adam does not own."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ⦗١٤٣⦘ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مِقْسَمٍ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ ضَبَّةَ حَدَّثَتْنِي عَمَّتِي سَارَةُ بِنْتُ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتِ كَرْدَمٍ قَالَتْ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَكَّةَ وَهُوَ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ لَهُ، وَأَنَا مَعَ أَبِي، فَذَكَرَتِ الْحَدِيثَ، قَالَتْ: فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبِي فِي ذَلِكَ الْمَقَامِ: إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ أَنْ أَذْبَحَ عِدَّةً مِنَ الْغَنَمِ، قَالَ: لَا أَعْلَمُ إِلَّا قَالَ: خَمْسِينَ شَاةً عَلَى رَأْسِ بُوَانَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " هَلْ عَلَيْهَا مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأَوْثَانِ شَيْءٌ؟ " قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: " فَأَوْفِ لِلَّهِ مَا نَذَرْتَ لَهُ " قَالَتْ: فَجَمَعَهَا أَبِي، فَجَعَلَ يَذْبَحُهَا فَانْفَلَتَتْ مِنْهُ شَاةٌ، فَطَلَبَهَا وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: اللهُمَّ أَوْفِ عَنِّي نَذْرِي، حَتَّى أَخَذَهَا فَذَبَحَهَا ". رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ فِي السُّنَنِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ يَزِيدَ وَقَالَ: إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ إِنْ وُلِدَ لِي وَلَدٌ ذَكَرٌ أَنْ أَنْحَرَ عَلَى رَأْسِ بُوَانَةَ فِي عَقَبَةٍ مِنَ الثَّنَايَا عِدَّةً مِنَ الْغَنَمِ ".
Sayyidah Maymunah bint Kardam (may Allah be pleased with her) states: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in Makkah; he was on his she-camel, and I was with my father. The narrator mentioned the hadith. (She said:) At that place my father said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): I have vowed to slaughter a number of sheep. The narrator says: As far as I know, he said: fifty sheep at the top of Buwanah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Is there anything of these idols there?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fulfil for Allah what you vowed to Him." My father gathered the sheep and began slaughtering them, and one sheep escaped. He went after it, saying: 'Allahumma awfi 'anni nadhri' (O Allah, fulfil my vow on my behalf), until he caught it and then slaughtered it.
(b) In the narration of Abu Dawud (may Allah have mercy on him), (my father) said: I vowed that if a male child were born to me, I would sacrifice a number of sheep at the top of Buwanah, at one of the mountain passes.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ فِي غَرَائِبِ الشُّيُوخِ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلْمَانَ الْفَقِيهُ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ السَّوَّاقُ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ الْغُدَانِيُّ، ثنا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: أَتَى رَجُلٌ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ أَنْ أَذْبَحَ بِبُوَانَةَ، فَقَالَ: " فِي قَلْبِكَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ شَيْءٌ؟ "، قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: " أَوْفِ بِنَذْرِكَ ".
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) states that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have vowed to slaughter at a place called Buwanah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is there anything of the Jahiliyyah in your heart?" He said: No. So he said: "Fulfil your vow."
