Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he met Zayd bin Amr bin Nufayl in the lower part of Baldah. This was before revelation came down to him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) presented to him a dining spread with meat on it, but Zayd refused to eat from it and said: "I do not eat what you slaughter on your stone altars. I eat only that over which the name of Allah has been mentioned."

Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: "Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) single you out for anything?" He said: "He did not single us out for anything apart from the people in general, except what is in the sheath of my sword." Then he took out a scroll in which was written: "May Allah curse whoever slaughters for other than Allah, whoever steals the boundary markers of land, whoever curses his parents, and whoever gives shelter to an innovator."
