Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul! Were it not that there are some Muslims who do not like to stay behind me, yet I cannot arrange mounts for them, I would not stay behind any detachment setting out in the way of Allah. By the One in whose hand is my soul! I would love to be killed in the way of Allah, then brought to life, then killed, then brought to life, then killed, then brought to life, then killed."

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever Muslim man fights in the way of Allah for as long as the interval of milking a she-camel, Paradise becomes obligatory for him. Whoever sincerely asks Allah Almighty for martyrdom, then dies or is killed in the way of Allah, will receive the reward of martyrdom. Whoever is wounded in the way of Allah or suffers some calamity, when he comes on the Day of Resurrection, it (the wound) will be flowing more copiously than it ever was; its colour will be like saffron and its scent like musk. And whoever goes out in the way of Allah will bear the seal of the martyrs."
