Iyas bin Salamah narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him)) that he said: We went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He mentioned the long hadith, in which it is stated that they raided the grazing livestock of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator said: Then I climbed the hill of Thaniyyah and, facing towards Madinah, called out three times; then I went out after the people, shooting arrows at them and reciting rajaz verses: I am the son of al-Akwa'; today is the day the base are destroyed.
In it, it is also stated: When we went to Khaybar, my uncle Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) was saying:
"By Allah! Were it not for Allah, we would not have been guided, nor would we have given charity, nor would we have prayed; and we are rich only through Your bounty. If we meet the enemy, make our feet firm, and send down tranquillity upon us."
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who is this?" The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) replied: It is Amir. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May your Lord forgive you." In it, it is also stated: When they went to Khaybar, Marhab came brandishing his sword and said:
"Khaybar knows that I am Marhab, fully armed, a brave and seasoned warrior, when the fires of war blaze up."
So my uncle answered him:
"Khaybar knows that I am Amir, fully armed and brave."
Then he mentioned in the hadith that he put his sword into its sheath, and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) drew his sword from its sheath, recited verses and killed him.

Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a man said: O Abu Umarah! Did you flee on the Day of Hunayn? He said: I bear witness that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not flee; but when Hawazin showered arrows upon the hasty ones among the people, and Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) was holding the reins of his (peace and blessings be upon him) white mule, he (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying: "I am the Prophet, it is no lie; I am the son of Abd al-Muttalib."

Ibn Ishaq mentions the account of the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) in the Battle of Mu'tah, and says (that he was reciting):
O Paradise! You have drawn near; your drink is pure and cool.
And the Romans are a people whose punishment has drawn near; if I meet them, killing them is my duty.
Abdullah bin Abi Bakr bin Hazm said: When Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) took the banner that day, he recited these verses:
O soul! I have sworn that you shall descend into battle, whether gladly or unwillingly,
Even if the people gather and raise a fierce clamour. I see that you are averse to Paradise.
You have lived your life in ease; you are nothing but a drop of fluid.
Ibn Ishaq said: He also said:
O soul! If you are not killed, you will die anyway. This is the pool of death which you have reached, and what you wished for has been given to you. If you do what these two did (that is, follow Sayyiduna Ja'far and Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both)), it is better; and if you hold back, you are wretched.
He meant Sayyiduna Ja'far and Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both). Then he advanced and fought, and was martyred.

Hunaydah (may Allah be pleased with him), a man from Khuza'ah, said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will take this sword and fulfil its right?" A man said: I will fulfil its right. He took the sword and, while fighting the enemy, said:
I am the one with whom my close friend took the pledge when we were beneath the palm tree; I will not hold back in cowardice; I will keep wielding the sword of Allah and the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Others have added that in the end he was martyred.
