أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ، أنبأ أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ السَّمَّاكِ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ هُنَيْدَةَ، ⦗٢٦١⦘ رَجُلٌ مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَنْ يَأْخُذُ هَذَا السَّيْفَ بِحَقِّهِ؟ " قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: أَنَا. قَالَ: فَأَخَذَهُ، فَلَمَّا لَقِيَ الْعَدُوَّ جَعَلَ يَقُولُ:.
Hunaydah (may Allah be pleased with him), a man from Khuza'ah, said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who will take this sword and fulfil its right?" A man said: I will fulfil its right. He took the sword and, while fighting the enemy, said:
I am the one with whom my close friend took the pledge when we were beneath the palm tree; I will not hold back in cowardice; I will keep wielding the sword of Allah and the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Others have added that in the end he was martyred.
