Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Quraysh wanted someone to speak to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the Makhzumi woman who had stolen, and it was decided that only Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) had the courage for it, as he was the beloved of the Messenger. So Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Usamah! Are you interceding concerning the hudud of Allah?" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon and said: "Those before you were destroyed only because when a rich person among them stole, they would let him go, and they would carry out the hadd on the poor. By Allah, even if Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), were to steal, I would cut off her hand too."

Yahya bin Rashid al-Dimashqi said: Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) came and sat with us. We were silent, so he (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Why are you silent? Why do you not speak? Why do you not say 'Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi' (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him)? One of them equals ten, ten equal a hundred, and a hundred equal a thousand, and the more you recite, the more Allah will increase it. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever's intercession stands in the way of one of the hudud of Allah has opposed Allah in His command. Whoever dies while in debt, it will not be repaid with dinars and dirhams, but with good deeds and bad deeds. Whoever disputes in support of falsehood, knowing it, remains under Allah's displeasure until he desists. And whoever says about a believer what is not true, Allah will put him in the mire of Hell until he comes out of what he said."

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, while the Companions were sitting: "Why do you not say anything? Whoever says 'Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi' (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him), Allah writes ten good deeds for him; whoever says it ten times, a hundred; and whoever says it a hundred times, Allah writes a thousand good deeds for him. Whoever does more, Allah will give him more; and whoever seeks forgiveness from Allah, Allah will forgive him. Whoever's intercession stands in the way of one of the hudud of Allah has opposed Allah in His ruling. Whoever accuses an innocent person, Allah will place him in the mire of Hell (tinat al-khabal) until he brings a way out of what he said. And whoever disowns his child in this world in order to disgrace him, Allah will disgrace him before all creation on the Day of Resurrection."

Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Intercede in matters of the hudud as long as the matter has not reached the ruler; but once it reaches the ruler, do not intercede."

Al-Furafisah al-Hanafi said: Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by us while we had caught a thief. He (may Allah be pleased with him) interceded for him, saying: Let him go. We said: O Abu Abdullah, are you telling us to let him go? He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: That may be done before the matter reaches the ruler; but if it reaches the ruler, then may Allah not pardon him (the ruler) if he pardons him.
