أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ، أَنْبَأَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْقَطَّانُ، ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ السُّلَمِيُّ، قَالَا: ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيِّ، أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ، صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مِنَّا رِجَالٌ يَتَطَيَّرُونَ، قَالَ: " ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ تَجِدُونَهُ فِي نُفُوسِكُمْ، فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمْ "، قَالُوا: وَمِنَّا رِجَالٌ يَأْتُونَ الْكُهَّانَ، قَالَ: " فَلَا تَأْتُوا كَاهِنًا " رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاهَوَيْهِ وَعَبْدِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ.
Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin al-Hakam al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, some of us take omens." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is a feeling in your hearts, but let it not hold you back from anything." Then they asked: "Some people also go to soothsayers." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not go to soothsayers."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ السُّوسِيُّ، قَالَا: ثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزِيدٍ، أَنْبَأَ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَلْقَمَةَ، ثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي هِلَالُ بْنُ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيُّ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَحَادِيثَ، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا كُنَّا حَدِيثَ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ، وَإِنَّ اللهَ جَاءَ بِالْإِسْلَامِ وَإِنَّ رِجَالًا مِنَّا يَتَطَيَّرُونَ، قَالَ: " ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ يَجِدُونَهُ فِي صُدُورِهِمْ، فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّهُمْ "، قُلْتُ: وَرِجَالٌ مِنَّا يَأْتُونَ الْكَهَنَةَ، قَالَ: " فَلَا يَأْتُوهُمْ، قُلْتُ: وَرِجَالٌ مِنَّا يَخُطُّونَ، قَالَ: " قَدْ كَانَ نَبِيُّ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ يَخُطُّ، فَمَنْ وَافَقَ خَطَّهُ فَذَاكَ " ⦗٢٣٨⦘ أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْأَوْزَاعِيّ.
Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin al-Hakam al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated three hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have only recently come out of the Jahiliyyah, and Allah has brought Islam; some of us take omens." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is something they find in their hearts, so let it not hold them back." I said: "Some of us go to soothsayers." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let them not go to them." I said: "Some of us draw lines (in the sand)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One of the prophets used to draw lines; so whoever's line agrees with his, that is (correct)."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَالَوَيْهِ، ثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ، عَنْ بَعْضِ، أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " مَنْ أَتَى عَرَّافًا فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ شَيْءٍ لَمْ تُقْبَلْ لَهُ صَلَاةٌ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ".
Safiyyah (may Allah have mercy on her) narrated this hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from one of the Mothers of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with them), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever goes to a soothsayer and asks him about anything, his prayer will not be accepted for forty nights."
وَأَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بِشْرَانَ، بِبَغْدَادَ، أَنْبَأَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ الْكُهَّانَ قَدْ يُحَدِّثُونَنَا بِالشَّيْءِ فَيَكُونُ حَقًّا، قَالَ: " تِلْكَ الْكَلِمَةُ مِنَ الْحَقِّ يَخْطَفُهَا الْجِنِّيُّ فَيَقْذِفُهَا فِي أُذُنِ وَلِيِّهِ فَيَزِيدُ فِيهَا أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مِائَةِ كِذْبَةٍ " رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ عَبْدِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ وَأَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ.
Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, sometimes the soothsayers tell us something and it turns out to be true." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is a word of truth which the jinn snatch, and they relay it to their ally after mixing 100 lies into it."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ السُّوسِيُّ، قَالَا: ثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَوْفٍ، ثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، ثَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ، أُرَاهُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي رِجَالٌ، مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، قَالَ: بَيْنَا هُمْ جُلُوسٌ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رُمِيَ بِنَجْمٍ فَاسْتَنَارَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَا كُنْتُمْ تَقُولُونَ إِذَا كَانَ مِثْلُ هَذَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ إِذَا رُمِيَ بِمِثْلِ هَذَا "، قَالُوا: اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ، قَالُوا: كُنَّا نَقُولُ: وُلِدَ اللَّيْلَةَ رَجُلٌ عَظِيمٌ، مَاتَ اللَّيْلَةَ رَجُلٌ عَظِيمٌ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " فَإِنَّهَا لَا تُرْمَى لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ، وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ، وَلَكِنَّ رَبَّنَا إِذَا قَضَى أَمْرًا سَبَّحَهُ حَمَلَةُ الْعَرْشِ، ثُمَّ سَبَّحَهُ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ التَّسْبِيحُ أَهْلَ السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَ حَمَلَةَ الْعَرْشِ لِحَمَلَةِ الْعَرْشِ: مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ؟ فَيُخْبِرُونَهُمْ فَيَسْتَخْبِرُ أَهْلُ السَّمَاوَاتِ بَعْضُهُم بَعْضًا حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ الْخَبَرُ هَذِهِ السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا، فَيَخْطَفُ الْجِنَّ السَّمْعَ فَيُلْقُونَهُ إِلَى أَوْلِيَائِهِمْ، فَمَا جَاءُوا بِهِ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ فَهُوَ حَقٌّ، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ يَقْذِفُونَ فِيهِ " أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ.
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Some of the Ansari Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) told me: We were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a star was shot and it lit up. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What did you used to say in the Jahiliyyah when something like this happened?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best, but in the Jahiliyyah we used to think that a great man had been born tonight or a great man had died." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are not shot for anyone's life or death. Rather, when our Lord decrees a matter, the bearers of the Throne say 'Subhan Allah' (Glory be to Allah), then the people of every heaven in turn glorify Him. Then the people of the first heaven ask the bearers of the Throne: 'What did Allah Almighty say?' They tell them, and the news passes on until it reaches the lowest heaven. Then the jinn overhear some of it, mix lies into it and tell it to their allies; and whatever the soothsayers say that is true is that very word of truth."
