In the narration of Abu Uways, from Abdullah and Muhammad, the sons of Abu Bakr bin Muhammad bin Amr bin Hazm, from their father, from their grandfather, from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), concerning the document that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had written for Sayyiduna Amr bin Hazm (may Allah be pleased with him): "And for a believing soul (that is killed) there are one hundred camels (as diyah)."
Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ruled that the diyah (blood money) of a Jew and of a Christian is 4000 dirhams, and that of a Magian is 800 dirhams.

Sadaqah bin Yasar said: We asked Ibn al-Musayyib about the diyah (blood money) of a dhimmi, and he replied that Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) ruled 4000 dirhams for it. We said: Then who (ruled) before him? So he pelted us with pebbles.
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: They are the ones who asked him the second question. The opposite of this is also reported from Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) through two chains, one of which is not preserved and the other munqati' (broken); we have mentioned them (in the chapter) "A believer is not to be killed in retaliation for a disbeliever."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) likewise (that the diyah of a Magian is 800 dirhams), and that the diyah (blood money) of a Magian woman is 400 dirhams. Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) also said the same.
Hadith Reference
Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The diyah (blood money) of a Magian is 800 dirhams."
Only Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, narrated it, and the first (narration) is more likely to be the preserved one; and Allah knows best.

Amr bin Shu'ayb (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The diyah (blood money) of a disbeliever, whether a Jew or a Christian, is half that of a Muslim."
Hadith Reference
Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), that in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) the diyah (blood money) was 800 dinars or 8000 dirhams, and the diyah of a disbeliever was half that of a Muslim. It remained like this until the time of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). When he became caliph, camels had become expensive, so he raised the diyah, but he did not raise the diyah of the dhimmis; that is, he kept it fixed at 4000 dirhams, because for the People of the Book it was a fixed amount, whereas for the Muslims it was a valuation (taqwim).
Hadith Reference
Amr bin Shu'ayb (relates) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "imposed 4000 dirhams on every Muslim who killed a man from the People of the Book."
Hadith Reference
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) kept the diyah (blood money) of the two Amiris the same as that of a free Muslim, because they had a covenant.
Hadith Reference
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) paid the diyah (blood money) of two free Muslims for two dhimmi polytheists, because they had a covenant with him.
Al-Hasan bin Umarah is matruk (abandoned) and is not used as evidence.
Hadith Reference
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The diyah (blood money) of a dhimmi is equal to the diyah of a Muslim."

Imam al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Abu Kurz, whose name is Abdullah bin Abd al-Malik al-Fihri, is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith), and no one other than him narrated it from Nafi'.
Hadith Reference
Al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), in the time of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and in the time of Umar and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them both), the diyah (blood money) of a Jew and of a Christian was the same as that of the Muslims. When the era of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came, he gave half to them (the family of the slain) and deposited half in the public treasury. Then Umar bin Abd al-Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) ruled for the half (to the family) and dropped what Mu'awiyah had assigned (to the treasury). Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) rejected this narration because it is mursal, since al-Zuhri's mursal reports are bad (qabih al-mursal); and we have narrated from Umar and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them both) what is more authentic than it.
Hadith Reference
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The diyah (blood money) of one under a covenant (mu'ahid) and of a dhimmi is the same as the diyah of a Muslim. This is munqati' (has a broken chain).
