Ibn Shihab, Makhul and Ata (may Allah have mercy on them) said: We found the people holding that the blood money of a free Muslim in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was 100 camels. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) fixed it for the townspeople at 1000 dinars or 12000 dirhams. The blood money of a free Muslim woman, when she is from the townspeople, is 500 dinars or 6000 dirhams; if the one who injured her is a Bedouin, her blood money is 50 camels; and the blood money of a Bedouin woman injured by a Bedouin is 50 camels. The Bedouin is not obliged to pay in gold or silver.

It is reported from Abu Najih that a man trampled a woman (to death) in Makkah, and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) ruled 8000 dirhams for her: a full blood money and a third.
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) took the aggravated blood money because she was killed within the Haram.
