Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man prepared food and invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). A man said: "I am fasting." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your brother has prepared food. Break your fast, and fast another day in its place."

Bilal bin Ka'b al-Akki (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We visited Yahya bin Hassan al-Bakri, going from Asqalan to Sanajiyah: I, Ibn Qurayr, Ibn Adham and Musa bin Yasar. Food was brought to us, and Musa bin Yasar held back his hand. Yahya said: Eat. Abu Qirsafah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a Companion, led us in prayer in this mosque for twenty years; he would fast one day and not fast the next. A son was born to me, so I held a feast and invited him, and that day he was fasting. He broke his fast. He said: So Musa stretched out his hand and ate, and Ibn Adham was cleaning the mosque with his cloak.
